Advancing Scientific Discovery and Patient Care through Research and Education
As a major academic medical center, Cedars-Sinai is both a leading research institution and a world-class educational facility for tomorrow's physicians and scientists.
Biomedical Research
The Burns and Allen Research Institute at Cedars-Sinai attracts outstanding minds from around the world to engage in the pursuit of new medical knowledge. The institute's inquiries encompass basic science, translational research and clinical trials in virtually every medical field.
Medical and Graduate Education
As a freestanding academic medical center, Cedars-Sinai offers medical students and residents a unique experience unavailable in many university settings. Cedars-Sinai provides clerkships for many medical students from UCLA in obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, psychiatry and surgery. Residents work alongside Cedars-Sinai faculty and private physicians on our medical staff who participate in the teaching programs. This provides residents with both an academic as well as private perspective.
In 2008 Cedars-Sinai launched a Graduate Program in Biomedical Sciences and Translational Medicine. This unique program allows participants to train in translational medicine – an approach which translates basic scientific discoveries into diagnostic procedures and treatments for patients – through teaching and mentoring interactions with world-class physicians and laboratory scientists affiliated with Cedars-Sinai's cutting-edge centers of excellence. Based in the heart of our independent academic medical center, the program offers students unparalleled opportunities to learn translational medicine at a hospital that serves a highly diverse patient population.
