Educational Programs
As part of its institutional mission, Cedars-Sinai provides a wide range of educational programs. As a major teaching hospital for the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, Cedars-Sinai provides graduate medical education for the next generation of physicians. Continuing medical education allows Cedars-Sinai medical staff and the wider physician community to stay current in their areas of specialty and meet licensing requirements. Finally, the Medical Center’s doctoral programs enable graduate students to work side-by-side with some of the world’s leading medical researchers.

Cedars-Sinai faculty members involved in academic-related activities may qualify for a professorial and/or professional appointment at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA.
Burns and Allen Research Institute
The Burns and Allen Research Institute at Cedars-Sinai fosters investigation into the causes of disease and new possibilities for therapies and cures. The institute’s discoveries have advanced the treatment of cancer, heart disease, neurological and metabolic disorders, and many other conditions.
Comparative Medicine
Comparative Medicine at Cedars-Sinai facilitates biomedical research utilizing animals while enforcing the highest standards of ethical, humane and appropriate animal care. The program has been fully accredited by the Association for Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care (AAALAC International) since 1967.
Institutional Review Board
The Cedars-Sinai Medical Center Institutional Review Board (CSMC IRB) is the entity responsible for overseeing all research activities involving human subjects conducted at Cedars-Sinai. Investigators at Cedars-Sinai are required to conduct human subjects research in accordance with the Belmont principles of respect for persons, beneficence and justice.
Additional Activities
In addition to its educational and research activities, Academic Affairs is responsible for the Medical Center’s fiscal services and physician billing, human resources administration, business development, strategic planning and community relations.
